Managing Director, Kapyon Ventures

Mr. Chen is the Co-founder and Managing Director of Kapyon Ventures, LLC, a San Diego based technology incubation firm. In this role, he has managed numerous partnerships with research institutes across the world under the Kapyon incubation model. Kapyon has to date successfully spun out three portfolio companies ZeaKal, Inc, Algenetix Inc, and PhytaGro Corp. Mr. Chen is responsible for the strategic direction of Kapyon and its portfolio companies and has extensive experience in the development of early stage companies, raising startup capital and forming industry partnerships. Prior to forming Kapyon, Mr. Chen served as the Investment Manager for Finistere Partners, LLC, a San Diego based venture capital firm. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Amherst College and has a master’s degree in international business management from the University of California, San Diego. He is also a CFA charterholder.

VP of Engineering, EyeVerify

Jeremy Paben is VP of Engineering for EyeVerify, creators of the Eyeprint Verification System. In this role he works with biometric, security, and image processing experts to bring an innovative new biometric technology to the mobile market. Prior to EyeVerify, Jeremy worked at Rush Tracking Systems where he was responsible for launching and commercializing multiple product lines using state of the art tracking and wireless technologies. Jeremy started his career at Accenture, where he led large software development engagements for Fortune 1000 companies.

MedSocket provides a patented clinical decision support system with our 1-Click Decision Support (1-CDS) and an innovative patent-pending medical search engine. Our technology is designed from the clinician’s perspective, with specific attention to their needs and requirements. 1-CDS and 1-Search connect busy, practicing clinicians to the best available evidence-based information with unprecedented speed and simplicity. Both technologies have been successfully piloted at the University of Missouri Health System and show potential to improve healthcare decisions, enhance efficiency, decrease healthcare costs and improve patient outcomes.

MedSocket was founded by Dr. Karl Kochendorfer, inventor of 1-Search and co-inventor of 1-CDS. Kochendorfer has a background in computer science as well as over twelve years of clinical experience as a practicing family physician. He was the technical and clinical lead for Missouri’s effort to build out a Health Information Exchange and facilitate the adoption of EHR technology to achieve Meaningful Use through the University of Missouri’s Regional Extension Center. Dr. Kochendorfer is currently at the University of Illinois-Chicago where he serves as Assistant VP of Health Affairs and Chief Health Information Officer. His combined academic and industry perspective focus the company’s effort toward developing technology that will improve patient outcomes and physicians’ experience using health IT.
